Panel number: 118

Petition Sheet Number: 126

Person honouring: Isabella Brugh

Relationship to makers: None.

Isabella Thomson was an early pioneer who helped build a town. She was born in Auchterarder, Scotland in 1836, before she emigrated to New Zealand.

In Dunedin, in 1863, she married James Brugh, a fellow settler from Auchterarder. They had at least three children. The Brughs were among the first European families to settle the Clutha District. This was a difficult job that meant literally building a township, including felling, sawing, and carrying timber.

James died in 1878, and Isabella in 1897 (at South Molyneux, Otago). The three Brugh daughters also signed the petition - underneath Isabella’s on sheet 126. Their names were Christina Allen, Mary Catherine, and Margaret Maggie Barnett.

Panel materials: Used materials from home, however I did have the copy of Sheet 126 printed professionally.
