Janet Ogg (nee Mill) was born on 12 March 1850 in Watten, Caithness, Scotland to John Mill and Margaret Campbell. She was one of seven children. 

Janet sailed from Glasgow to New Zealand in 1874 on the ‘Parsee’. Shipping notes document her occupation as a domestic servant (Laundress) and her age as 23. In Scotland, she left behind a young daughter, Jessie Nicholl Mill. Jessie later migrated to NZ with Janet’s mother Margaret. 

On 20 July 1877, Janet married James Ogg in Caverham, Dunedin on 20 July 1877. They had two sons; Alexander and William who had nine children between them and left many descendants. Janet lived all her married life in the North East Valley of Dunedin. Janet signed the petition as Mrs Ogg, Arthur St, NE Valley. 

Janet died on the 10 May 1927 in Dunedin of heart failure and is buried in Andersons Bay Cemetery in Dunedin along with her husband and mother.
