Francie Fowke was a good and inspirational friend and mentor who suddenly passed away from cancer in May 2000.

Francie had an enthusiasm for life, laughing about its general absurdities. She was the Principal Human Resource Officer in the Department of Conservation’s Central Region. She made a significant contribution to the department and was known for her warmth, caring attitude, and friendship. Francie was also a beloved mother and wife, and a great home decorator with a flair for creating beauty.

Her enthusiasm for life and her creativity shone through. We enjoyed many a walk in Wellington’s Botanic Gardens, admiring whatever was in flower and laughing about life. When I perform an act of kindness I know Francie would be proud of me.

Panel materials: The base for the panel is a repurposed damask serviette. Parts of three doilies were incorporated in the panel, as well as a piece of embroidered dress fabric. Various embroidery threads were used for the stitching.
