Frances Mary Stone born in 1929. She was co-founder of City Stitchers. Frances also founded the Wellington Quilters Guild in 1990 and was twice President of the Embroiderers Guild. Her enthusiasm for stitching and for those carrying it out shone through.

City Stitchers was co-founded by Frances and Heather Smith around 2006. The idea was to find a free venue where stitchers could meet. It needed to have good natural light and be accessible to public transport. The meetings began in the free venues. These included the mezzanine floor of the Wellington Public Library and Anvil House. The current meeting place is the Wellington Friends Centre [Quakers] in Moncrieff Street.

The group is one where knowledge and creativity are shared. It is a place for friendship, caring, compassion, and laughter, to the benefit of all who gather.

Frances died in 2018, aged 89 years.

Panel materials: The base panel is a repurposed tray cloth of fine linen with two ivy vines running down its length. We used a range of embroidery threads for the stitching.
