Mary Robertson was born in Walls, Shetland Islands the only daughter of John Scott Twatt and Ann Jean Slater of Walls. She sailed from Plymouth on 17 August 1874 on Ocean Mail arriving in Nelson on 8 November 1874. She was a spinster travelling alone. It is not known how she travelled to Dunedin. 

She married Magnus Robertson, also from Shetland Isles, on 4 February 1896. They lived in various addresses in Dunedin - George Street, a farm in the Leith Valley near Pigeon Saddle, District Road (now Cnr Fulton & Islay Street) where they lived for about for 15 years before moving to Melbourne Street. They had no children but raised a girl named Mary Robertson. She died on 17 November 1822 and is buried in the Anderson Bay cemetery

Panel materials: Fabric purchased at the Stone Store in Kerikeri. Old pillow slip with machine embroidery on it, that belonged to my husband’s Aunt.
